About Mo
I believe in the power of authentic expression and deep relationships.

Mo Bankey’s approach to therapy is rooted in mindfulness, present moment awareness, compassion, and relational practices. Mo started meditating as a teenager struggling with anxiety, depression, and the coming out experience. Mo offers a welcoming space to explore challenging and sensitive topics around emotional expression, mental health, sexuality, gender identity, chronic illness, addiction, trauma, and relationships. Mo is a systems thinker and activist who recognizes the impact of power, privilege, and oppression on individual, group, and collective mental health and well-being. Mo is inspired to support clients in living fuller lives with more satisfying relationships, and has a special interest in working with LGBTQPIA+ populations.
Mo identifies as queer and non-binary (pronouns: they/them/their) and has experience working with transgender and genderqueer clients both in counseling and physical healthcare settings.
Mo is a dancer, gardener, and former yoga instructor. Mo has been working in the field of gender and healthcare for over 14 years; having managed a reproductive health center, provided health education in schools, and served as a volunteer advocate for sexual assault survivors before becoming a therapist.
After developing chronic illness over 10 years ago, Mo deepened their connection to the plant world and moved away from the physical demands of being a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Practitioner. Mo continues to study and incorporate somatic and nature-based approaches to psychotherapy.
Mo offers individual, couples, and relationship counseling for adults. Monogamous, non-monogamous, polyamorous, gay, lesbian, and queer relationship arrangements are welcome in their therapy practice.
Mo is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado. Mo earned a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling: Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology from Naropa University in 2018, and has completed additional post-graduate studies in Human Sexuality at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Mo also works as Assistant Professor, Meditation Retreat Director, Clinical Supervisor, and Buddhism-Informed Contemplative Counseling concentration Chair for Naropa University’s Graduate School of Counseling. They have additional clinical training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
